Which Electronic Platforms Will You Play When?

Electronic Arts, makers of the hugely popular video game franchise Battlefield, has made a $5 billion acquisition of online platform Electronic Arts Inc., the company said on Thursday.

The $5.3 billion deal comes as EA continues to focus on developing new and original games, and as its stock prices climb.

Electronic Arts is a leader in digital video game sales, with a market value of more than $4 billion.

The deal will give EA access to the biggest gaming audience on the planet, and EA is the first publisher to buy the digital platform in its nearly 60-year history.

“EA has been building an amazing game library for years and now they have the ability to extend that library to more platforms, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do with this acquisition,” EA CEO Andrew Wilson said in a statement.

EA will create EA Access, a digital subscription service that will provide access to EA games for as little as $5 a month.

EA’s purchase of EA Access follows the news that EA has been acquiring an additional $1.1 billion in assets, including film and video games.
